I’m a writer who fell in love with human-centered design. It seemed like a natural progression for me after a career of writing “how to” health and fitness books.
I’m passionate about solving problems and exploring the intersection of writing and design, where I can use both analytical skills and creativity. I think communication is key in any human endeavor, and research is essential to create effective designs. Of course, nothing is more important than listening, slowing down enough to truly hear what people are saying.
I geek out on literature reviews, content audits, comparative analyses, redesigning interfaces to improve usability, and conducting qualitative research (creating the research questions, interviewing research participants, atomizing and coding data…). I’m very comfortable out-of-the-box, but am also a team player.
I have an M.S. in Human Centered Design and Engineering from the University of Washington. My goal is finding ways to apply human-centered design principles and processes to the health care and educational systems.
This WP blog is where I dumped my homework assignments during school. I hope to design my actual portfolio before the end of the year.
